Our journal aims to be an academic platform that publishes studies relevant to Shi’ism, one of the most important Islamic thought schools and all subjects concerned with it.

Our journal includes copyrighted and translated articles, research notes, symposium/book/thesis reviews, critical editions, simplifications etc. from all kinds of Social Sciences namely History of Islamic Sects, Kalam, Tafsir, Hadith, Law, History, Politics, Economics, and International Relations which are related to Imāmiyya, Zaydiyya, Ismāiliyya, and other Shi’ite sects.

The publication languages of the Turkish Journal of Shiite Studies are Turkish and English.

1. Manuscripts sent to our journal are first reviewed by the Editor for compliance with the journal principles. Manuscripts not included in the scope of the journal are rejected.

2. Compliance with The Chicago Manual of Style (17th Edition, Notes and Bibliography) system will be sought for footnotes and references in the articles sent to our journal. Those who do not meet these criteria are returned to their authors for correction.

3. Academic impartiality and scientific quality are the most important criteria in evaluating the articles submitted for publication.

4. The authors take into consideration the criticism and recommendations of the referees and the Editorial Board. If they have not participated, they have the right to appeal for their reasons.

5. All types of articles submitted to our journal (Research Article, Translation, Note, Book Review, etc.) must include an abstract in Turkish and English in a range of at least 150-200 words.

 

Ethical Principles

The publication process at the Turkish Journal of Shiite Studies is the basis of the improvement and dissemination of information objectively and respectfully. Therefore, the procedures in this process improve the quality of the studies. Peer-reviewed studies are the ones that support and materialize the scientific method. At this point, it is of utmost importance that all parties included in the publication process (authors, readers, and researchers, publishers, reviewers, and editors) comply with the standards of ethical considerations. Turkish Journal of Shiite Studies expects all parties to hold the following ethical responsibilities.
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is a necessary basic building block for the development of a harmonious and respected information network. This is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and their supporting institutes. Peer-reviewed articles support and shape scientific methods. Therefore, reaching agreement on the standards of expected ethical behavior is important for all publishing parties, authors, journal editors, referees and publishing organizations:


1.Authorship:

· Bibliography list must be complete.
· Plagiarism and fake data should not be included.
· The same research should not be attempted to be published in more than one journal, it should comply with scientific research and publication ethics.


Actions contrary to scientific research and publication ethics are:


a) Plagiarism: To present the ideas, methods, data, practices, writings, figures or works of others as if they were their own work, without reference to their owners in accordance with scientific rules,
b) Forgery: To produce data that is not based on research, to edit or change the presented or published work based on unreal data, to report or publish them, to pretend that a research has been done,
c) Distortion: Falsifying the research records and the data obtained, showing the methods, devices, and materials not used in the research as being used, considering the data that are not suitable for the research hypothesis, playing with the data and/or results in order to conform to the relevant theory or assumptions, falsifying or shaping research results in line with their interests,
ç) Republishing: To present the same results of a research as separate works,
d) Slicing: To present the results of a research as separate works in a way that disrupts the integrity of the research by breaking the research into pieces in an inappropriate way and by making many publications without reference to each other,
e) Unfair authorship: Including non-active contributors among the authors, not including active contributors among the authors, changing the author's order in an unjustified and inappropriate manner, removing the names of those with active contributions from the work during publication or in subsequent editions, being included his/her name among the authors by exerting influence even being a non-active contributor.
f) Other types of ethical violations: Not clearly stating the persons, institutions, or organizations that support the publications of the researches conducted with the support and their contribution to the research, failure to comply with ethical rules in research on humans and animals, not to respect patients' rights in the publications, to share with others the information contained in a work that he/she has been assigned to review as a referee before it is published, misusing resources, venues, facilities, and devices provided or allocated for scientific research, to make accusations of completely baseless, unwarranted and deliberate violation of ethics (YÖK Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive, Article 8).

2. Authors' Responsibilities
· All authors should contribute significantly to the research.
· A statement indicating that all data in the article are true and authentic is needed.
· All authors must ensure the retraction and correction of errors.

3. Responsibilities of Referees
· Evaluations should be impartial.
· Referees should not have conflicts of interest with research, authors, and/or research funders.
· Referees should indicate the relevant published works but not cited.
· Checked articles should be kept confidential.

4. Editorial Responsibilities
· Editors have full responsibility and authority to accept or reject an article.
· Editors should not have a conflict of interest with articles that they accept or reject.
· Only articles that will contribute to the field should be accepted.
· Should support the release or withdrawal of the correction when errors are found.
· Should keep the referees anonymous and prevent plagiarism/fake data.


The refereeing process is at the center of the success of scientific publishing. It is part of our commitment to maintain and improve the refereeing process, and the Turkish Journal of Shiite Studies has an obligation to assist the scientific community in all cases of publishing ethics, especially in case of questionable, duplicate publications, or plagiarism.

When a reader discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a paper published in the Turkish Journal of Shiite Studies or has any other complaint about editorial content (plagiarism, duplicate papers, etc.), he/she should make a complaint by e-mail to turkishshiitestudies@gmail.com. We welcome complaints as they provide an opportunity for improvement, and we aim to respond quickly and constructively.




Detecting Plagiarism

Articles submitted to the Turkish Journal of Shiite Studies are subjected to double-blind peer review by at least two referees. In addition, a special program used to detect plagiarism confirms that the articles have not been published before and do not contain plagiarism.

Publication Policy:
The following process is applied for the articles submitted for publication:

1. The study is subjected to a preliminary examination in terms of spelling rules. The study is expected to meet the necessary criteria in writing the Abstract, Introduction, Titles, Conclusion, and Bibliography. At this stage, compliance with one of the ISNAD Citation System (with Footnotes) or Chicago Manual of Style systems is sought. Manuscripts that do not meet the conditions are returned to their authors for correction.


2. It is subject to examination according to the types of the study as follows:
a. Research Articles are first sent to at least one member of the Editorial Board, taking into account their field of expertise. The person concerned examines whether the study meets the criteria of the journal in terms of academic writing and style in general and prepares a report as a result. In the relevant report, it is decided to refuse the work, to have it corrected, or to send it to referee review. The editor can comply with the incoming report or make a new decision as a result of his own review.
b. Translated articles are reviewed by at least one referee in consideration of language and style, relevance to the journal, and academic criteria.
c. Book Reviews are sent to the Book Review Editor and a decision is made in line with the report to be given.


3. Research articles that are decided to be submitted for referee review are subjected to double-blind peer review by at least two competent referees.


4. If the opinion of one of the referees is negative, the study can be sent to the third referee or it can be accepted or rejected by the decision of the Editor. The opinion of the third referee is decisive in the studies that are decided to be sent to the third referee. However, the Editor has the final say in whether the article is published or not.


5. The studies whose peer review is completed is confirmed by a special program used to detect plagiarism that the articles have not been published before and do not contain plagiarism. The similarity rate of this report is expected to be at most 20%.


6. The work is read carefully by our editorial team. It is completed if there are any deficiencies.


7. After the typeset of the work, it is sent to the author for its final reading, and then it is made ready for publication.


8. No fee is requested from the author before or after the publication.


9. After the articles are uploaded to the journal, a decision is made within 30-40 days and all processes are completed.


10. The author whose article is rejected is informed on the grounds on which the article was rejected.


11. Articles uploaded to our journal can be withdrawn until the referee evaluation process.

No fee is charged for the articles sent to our journal before and after publication.
